Percorsi del Novecento romano (20th century art in Rome) presents a selection of about seventy paintings and sculptures, important examples of Italian art and culture of the first half of the Twentieth century.
The Scientific Committee of the Museo della Scuola Romana has planned an exhibition of works from the collection of the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna di Roma (Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Rome), to be held in the exhibition circuit of Casino dei Principi in Villa Torlonia.
The exhibition, sponsored by the Sovraintendenza ai Beni Culturali del Comune di Roma (Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of the City of Rome) and organized by the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna, presents a selection of sixty-eight works - sculptures and paintings – which are considered to be representative, in the Gallery's historical collection, of the Italian art and culture of the first half of the Twentieth century.
The exhibition is a golden opportunity to enjoy some of the most important works in the collection which, because of the recent renovation to the existing site in Via Crispi, was not accessible to the public. Next to masterpieces, already on display in the original exhibition, there are never-before exhibited works, fully representative of the cultural and artistic milieu in Rome during the first half of the Twentieth century. Additional highlights are sculptures by artists such as Arturo Dazzi, Arturo Martini, and Marino Marini, stored since 1938 at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna (National Gallery of Modern Art).
More broadly, the exhibition illustrates, through the works on show, the movements, the artists and the times that, once again, make Rome a great cultural centre.
